From 1967 to 1969 the population in Berowra exploded from 2,800 to 4,250 and, at that time, it was estimated that by 1980 there would be 5,700 dwellings with 20,000 residents in the Berowra district.

In 1967 the Berowra Rugby League Club (the Wallabies) was established and had junior teams playing in 1968. At this time Berowra Oval was undergoing an extensive upgrade and was unavailable for sport placing more pressure for more sporting facilities in the district. By 1969 the Wallabies had A grade team and in those early years of the Wallabies, they were playing their junior and senior home games across several locations, including Parklands Oval (Mt Colah), Mt Kuring-gai Oval and Berowra Oval, which was far from ideal.

In January 1974 the kindergarten opened on Council land at the bottom of Hillcrest Road. At around the same time serious consideration was given to a council swimming pool being built on the adjacent council land to Little Warrina. However, in 1975 Hornsby Council finally approved the development of a large sporting field on their land in Warrina Street.

The larger sports field, called Warrina Street Oval, opened with floodlighting in 1976, and the red brick amenities block was added the following year.

In winter the larger field at Warrina has mostly been used by the Berowra Wallabies , the Berowra Soccer Club used it for competitive soccer matches for at least one winter (mid 1980s). Ironically the Berowra Soccer Club requested council provide a clubhouse for them at Warrina St Oval in 1966 and the Berowra Wallabies requested their own clubhouse at Berowra Oval in 1974. Both those requests were denied by council.

In 1990 the car park at Warrina St Oval was formally constructed and landscaped. Although aesthetically improved it badly reduced the area’s parking capacity. The same year the original copper log fort playground was upgraded to a more modern style.

In 2011 tiered seating in large sandstone blocks was installed after a joint fundraising project between local service clubs and Bendigo Bank.

In 2013 a proposal was formed and led by Wallabies stalwart, Andy Paterson, to upgrade the inadequate facilities at Warrina St Oval. With council support the four sports clubs combined with resident representatives to form a plan called the “Berowra Recreational Facilities Project” (BRFP). Andy brought together considerable volunteer labour with heavily discounted professional services to extend the old amenities block (doubling its original size), and added on a first floor clubhouse which is also used as a multi-purpose community facility – now named the “Andy Paterson Pavilion”. This new facility includes substantially increased toilet facilities which are fully available for public use in daylight hours through a timer lock system. Completion of the BRFP means Wallabies and Cricket Club now enjoy increased storage and changeroom facilities that even includes a gym.

In 2019 a large electronic scoreboard facility was installed on the northern boundary using funds from another NSW State Government grant.
