On Sunday afternoon in front of a packed Warrina Street oval the A’Grade boys unfortunately played their last game of the year in a knock out semi against the Avalon bulldogs. In what was a very hard fought game, both teams started well with an even flowing game, but a well prepared Avalon scored first before some slick attack saw Berowra hit back to level the scores up at 6-all.
After Avalon had three repeated sets attacking the Berowra line an ensuing penalty resulted in the away side taking an easy two points on offer to lead 8-6. Soon after the Berowra side again crossed the line and converted to snatch a four point lead at 12-8. The scores would stay that way until the final minutes of the game when Avalon forced their way over with a try in the right corner to level the score 12-all with a pressure kick to come. Unfortunately Avalon made the kick from out wide to take a two point lead into the dying minutes.
The boys never gave in until the final whistle and created a few chances to take the game themselves, but eventually Avalon finished 14-12 victors over the home side to secure their spot in the grand final.
Our coach Ross Hoye had the following to say this week “I would like to thank all the boys, everyone involved in the club and our amazing game supporters for all the hard work that has been put in this year, this isn’t just a Sunday thing and a lot goes on behind the scenes and I’m very happy with how the boys have played all year and how everyone has represented the club and community, and is safe to say our senior sides are in good stead for the future.”
As a committee we would also like to thank all the efforts that Ross and his team have put into their season and our club throughout 2017. Bringing Sunday footy back to Warrina St, and helping build a bigger and stronger Wallabies through their support of the junior teams. Enjoy the off season and can’t wait to see what you can do in 2018.
To Avalon and Forestville good luck in the Grand Final. We will see you again next year back at Warrina St!
