In Sunday afternoons Northern Conference Open Age (A’Grade) grand final, the Avalon Bulldogs defeated Forestville Ferrets 14-12 at Brookvale oval to take out the 2017 premiership.

After going to half time 4-2 down and then trailing 12-6 into the final ten minutes, minor premiers Forestville looked to be headed for victory. That was until Bulldogs captain Aaron Groom crossed the stripe, which when converted locked the scores 12-all and everything to play for.  Then with only minutes left on the clock, a penalty in front of the posts gifted Avalon an easy two points to take the lead 14-12 which they held on their way to winning back to back Premierships!

Looking at their progression through the finals series, having played four sudden-death games to take the premiership, congratulations must be given to Avalon, a fantastic effort. But next year it’s on again…go you mighty wallabies!
